A 12-week paid job program for young people, run by Regent Park Community Health Centre: 4 weeks of paid job skills training (30 hours a week), then an 8-week paid job placement with an employer (about 35 hours a week). You are paid Ontario minimum wage during training, your employer pays you an hourly wage based on Ontario minimum wage during the placement, and if you finish both parts you may get an extra $250 completion bonus. You also get weekly one-on-one career coaching, a certificate of completion when you finish, and may earn certificates such as First Aid CPR Level C, Safe Food Handling and WHMIS.

For whomYoung people aged 15 to 30 (not older than 30 when the program starts) who are unemployed and not in school or training full-time, are legally entitled to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident or protected person), and live in Regent Park, Moss Park or the surrounding communities. No work experience is needed.

If you qualify, go to an intake interview to check that the program fits you. Take the 4 weeks of paid training, then the 8-week paid job placement with an employer.
