Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Benefit
A monthly payment from the Government of Canada for people who cannot work because of a long-term disability and who have paid into the CPP. In 2026 it is a basic amount of $610.46 a month plus an amount based on what you paid into the CPP, up to a maximum of $1,741.20 a month. It changes to a CPP retirement pension when you turn 65.

When: No deadline. Service Canada aims to decide within 120 calendar days. A terminal illness is decided within 5 business days and a grave condition within 30 calendar days. If you did not apply when your disability started, you may still qualify under the late applicant provision.

- For whomPeople between 18 and 65 who have a mental or physical disability that stops them from working at any job on a regular basis, and that is long-term and not expected to get better or is likely to cause death. You must have contributed to the CPP in 4 of the 6 years before your disability stopped you from working, or in 3 of those 6 years if you contributed for 25 years or more in total. Credits from a former spouse or partner, or the child-rearing provision, may help you qualify.

Or fill out the paper form, ISP-1151, or ISP-2530A if you have a terminal illness, and mail it to Service Canada. For postal codes starting with L, M or N the address is Service Canada, PO Box 5100 Station D, Scarborough ON M1R 5C8. Ask your doctor or other health professional to fill out the medical report, ISP-2519 (or ISP-2530B for a terminal illness). Service Canada pays up to $175 for this form. Upload it in My Service Canada Account or mail it.
