Canada Learning Bond (CLB): free RESP money for children

The primary caregiver can request it until the child turns 18; after that, the young adult has until the day before they turn 21 to request it. From April 2028 the government will open an RESP automatically for eligible children born in 2024 or later whose caregiver gets the Canada Child Benefit (opting out starts in 2027).

Free government money for a child's education after high school, $500 the first year and $100 for each later year up to age 15 (up to $2,000 in total), paid into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) with no need to put in any of your own money.

For: Children born on or after January 1, 2004 who have a Social Insurance Number and are named in an RESP, in families with adjusted income of $58,523 or less with 1 to 3 children (under $66,036 with 4, under $73,577 with 5) for July 2026 to June 2027.

A federal grant you never pay back of up to $4,200 a year ($525 per month of study) for the 2026 to 2027 school year, for full-time students with financial need; in Ontario you get it by applying for OSAP.

Canadian Hospitality Foundation (CHF) Scholarships

The Current Opportunities page says scholarship applications start in winter 2026 and are coming soon; no open date, deadline or award amounts are posted yet.

Scholarships for students in post-secondary foodservice and hospitality programs (culinary, hotel and tourism, events, business, bar and beverage, design); the Toronto-based foundation has given more than 1,800 scholarships worth over $3,130,000 since 2001.

Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarships (financial need, grade 11)

Undergraduate applications are taken January 1 to March 31 each year, closing at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on March 31; the page does not yet post 2027 dates or the application link. Vocational and technical scholarships (up to $9,000, for certificate or diploma programs) take applications May 1 to June 30.

Scholarships of $10,000 (160 Canadian Scholarships) or $25,000 (10 National Entrepreneurial Scholarships) for grade 11 students who have overcome hardship and plan to earn a bachelor's degree; the money is paid to the school for tuition, fees, residence and books.

The page says to send your application to a nominator before March 31 and not before January 2; it states no year.

Awards of usually $1,000 to $1,500 (about 100 each year) for full-time undergraduate students who could not continue their studies without help; financial need counts more than top grades.

Ontario Learn and Stay Grant (nursing, paramedic and medical lab students)

Apply through OSAP each school year; you can apply up to 60 days before the end of your study period. The page lists the programs and campuses for students starting in 2026-27; 2025-26 applications closed July 31, 2026. Students who started in 2023-24 or later stay eligible in later years. If you do not finish the work commitment, the grant becomes a loan you must repay.

Ontario pays your tuition, compulsory fees, books and other direct education costs (supplies, equipment) if you study practical nursing, nursing, paramedic or medical laboratory programs at an eligible campus in Northern, Eastern or Southwestern Ontario and then work in that region.
